Day 3 Day 3 – Petra
A most unforgettable day in Petra. Petra, a Nabatean town, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Path to Petra, known as the “Siq”. Ahead of the Siq we see the dramatic view of the Treasury. We also see Byzantine mosaics in the Byzantine church of Petra, the Hadrian Gate and Cardo, the great Temple of Petra, the Monastery (for those able to climb up the mountain), sandstone rock-cut tombs, obelisk, street facades and much more.
Day 4 Day 4 – Jerash
Jerash, located 30 miles north of Amman. is the grandeur of Imperial Rome being one of the largest and most well preserved sites of Roman architecture in the world outside Italy. To this day, its paved and colonnaded streets, soaring hilltop temples, handsome theaters, public squares and plazas, baths, fountains and city walls pierced by towers and gates remain in exceptional condition.
Day 5 Day 5 – Madaba - Mount Nebo - Jerusalem
Today we visit Madaba. Visit the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George, home to a 6th century Byzantine map showing the Holy Land. Continue to Mount Nebo. This is the place where Moses is believed to have seen the “Promised Land” that he would never enter. We drive along the Jordan Valley to the border crossing on the River Jordan. Arrive Jerusalem
Day 6 Day 6 – Mt. of Olives - Gethsemane - Ein Karem - Bethlehem - Shepherds’ Field
We start our day with the Mount of Olives for a magnificent view of the Old City. We visit the Church of the Pater Noster, the Chapel of the Ascension and walk down to the Church of Dominus Flevit and the Garden of Gethsemane. We visit the Church of Gethsemane, known as the Church of All Nations and then continue to Ein Karem, known to be the birthplace of John the Baptist. After visiting the Church of the Visitation, we continue to Bethlehem. We visit the Church of the Nativity, the Holy Manger, the Basilica of St. Catherine and the Milk Grotto. We drive down to the Shepherds’ Field where the angel of the Lord appeared to the shepherds.
Day 7 Day 7 – Jerusalem - Old City - Mount Zion
Our visit of the Old City starts at St. Anne’s Church and the Pools of Bethesda before walking the Way of the Cross to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Continue to the Western Wall, Mount Zion, the Upper Room and the Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu.
Day 8 Day 8 – Bethany - Jericho - River Jordan - Dead Sea- Qumran
Drive to nearby Bethany. Here Christ performed the great miracle of raising Lazarus from the dead. Visit the Church of Lazarus, built on the traditional house of Mary and Martha and their brother Lazarus. We drive down to Jericho where we see the “tell” of Jericho and view the Mount of Temptation. Continue to the Baptismal site on the River Jordan and the Dead Sea where we can feel the salty water. We view Qumran where the Dead Sea scrolls were found before returning to our hotel in Jerusalem.
Day 9 Day 9 – Jerusalem - Caesarea - Haifa - Mount Transfiguration - Nazareth
Depart Jerusalem in the morning and drive towards ancient Caesarea to view the ruins and the Roman aqueduct. On to Haifa and Mount Carmel, where we visit the cave of the prophet Elijah, the Carmelite Monastery and enjoy a beautiful view of the coast and the city of Haifa. Continue to Mount Tabor, chosen by Jesus to be the site of His transfiguration. Visit the Franciscan Church of the Transfiguration and the Monastery. We arrive Nazareth where we visit the Church of the Annunciation and Mary’s Well.
Day 10 Day 10 – Cana - Tiberias - Sea Of Galilee - Tabgha - Capernaum - Mount of Beatitudes
This morning we drive to Cana, known throughout the Christian world, as it was the scene of Jesus’ first miracle when “he changed water into wine”. Continue to the city of Tiberias and visit the sites around the Sea of Galilee: The Church of St. Peter’s Primacy, Capernaum with Peter’s House, the Mount of Beatitudes and Caesarea Philippi. After a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee, we return to our hotel.
Day 11 Day 11 – Return to U.S.A.
