Daily Itinerary

Day 1 Welcome to Italy – Rome

Upon arrival at Rome Airport, we will be greeted by our English speaking tour manager who will be with the group during the entire stay in Italy. We will board the private deluxe bus and transfer to the Basilica of St Paul Outside the Walls. We will visit the Basilica where the great Apostle Paul is buried and celebrate Mass. Dinner and overnight at our hotel in Rome (D)

Day 2 Vatican Museums and Christian Rome

After breakfast, we will start our tour with a visit of Vatican Museums where we will see the magnificent rooms painted by Raphael as well as the Sistine Chapel, followed by a tour of the Basilica of St Peter. Following lunch, we will visit St Mary Major, St John in Lateran and the Holy Stairs. Finally we will celebrate Mass. Dinner and overnight at the hotel (B, D)

Day 3 Papal Audience - Assisi

After breakfast and check out, we will return to the Vatican City to attend the Papal Audience in St Peter’s Square with Pope Francis. Following lunch, we will drive to Assisi. Upon arrival we will see St Mary of the Angels Church which houses the Portiuncula, one of the chapels rebuilt by St Francis, and celebrate Mass. Dinner and overnight at our hotel in Assisi (B, D)

Day 4 Assisi – La Verna - Assisi

After breakfast we drive to the Franciscan Sanctuary of La Verna. Here St Francis asked God to be able to take part of the Passion of Christ. The Lord paid attention to his words and gave him the Stigmata. St Anthony of Padua probably stopped here during his way from Assisi to Padua. After lunch at the Pilgrim’s refectory, we celebrate Mass. Then we will return to Assisi for dinner and overnight (B, L, D)

Day 5 Assisi - Rimini

Following breakfast and check out, we will visit the Basilica of St Clare and the Basilica of St Francis. The upper Basilica with Giotto’s frescoes representing the life of St Francis. We will have time to pray on the Tomb of St Francis and celebrate Mass. In 1221 St Anthony travelled to Assisi, where there was to be a great assembly of the friars. Here Anthony listened to the teachings of St. Francis and he was greatly consoled. The provincial of Bologna, Friar Graziano, invited Anthony to follow him. After lunch, we drive to our hotel in Rimini for dinner and overnight (B, D)

Day 6 Rimini – Montepaolo - Padua

This morning we will visit the old city centre of Rimini including the Sanctuary of St Anthony of Padua. The small temple, built in 1518 in front of the church called of Paolotti, is the site where, according to tradition, the miracle of the mule took place. Then we will drive to the small town of Montepaolo to visit the hermitage in the mountains where friar Graziano sent Anthony to serve as a priest for the community of brother hermits living there. Dinner and overnight at our hotel in Padua (B, D)

Day 7 Walking day: from Camposampiero to Padua (16,5 miles)

Following breakfast, we will drive to Camposanpiero to start the last part of the “Path of St Anthony”. Camposanpiero is a small town where in 1231 Earl Tiso VI, a man who had been converted by the Saint’s preaching, persuaded Anthony to move there and rest to recover spiritually and physically. The shrine consists of two churches: the small one is on the spot in which Anthony had built a small shelter where he could dedicate himself to quiet contemplation; and the Shrine of the Vision, which contains the cell where Tiso beheld the Jesus Baby appearing in Anthony’s arms. Then we will walk to Arcella which is a densely populated suburb of Padua along the road from the city centre to Camposampiero. This is the place where there was once a church dedicated to Santa Maria della Cella. Now the cell where the Saint passed away is housed inside the larger church. Finally we will reach Padua and the Basilica of St Anthony where will visit his tomb and celebrate Mass. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight (B, D)

Day 8 Padua – Venice - Padua

Today, we will depart to the magical city of Venice. After Mass, we will visit the Golden Basilica of San Marco, known for the great mosaics that depict the Old and New Testament of the Bible. Then we will enjoy a walking tour which includes a visit to St. Mark's Square, the largest square in the city and the site of many government buildings; the Bridge of Sigh and the Doges' Palace (from outside), which served as the seat of the Government for the Republic of Venice for centuries. Free afternoon for shopping or to enjoy a gondola ride. Return to Padua for dinner and an overnight (B, D)

Day 9 Departure

After an early breakfast, we will leave by motor coach and transfer to the Venice airport for return flights home (B)

                    [description] => <p style="margin:0in 0in 8pt">
