Upon arrival to the Istanbul Airport, we will meet our guide and head to our hotel. Dinner and overnight.
Day 3 Nov 05, Full Day in Istanbul
After enjoying our Turkish breakfast, we will begin our tour of the historical highlights of Istanbul. First, we will stroll through Hippodrome Square, the former sporting and social center of Constantinople that hosted chariot races during the Roman period. Afterward, we are off to witness the incredible majesty and splendor of the Sultan Ahmet Mosque. Popularly known as the Blue Mosque. Then, on to the Byzantine Cisterns. This huge underground water reservoir is a breathtaking museum where modern art exhibitions are organized during the Biennial of Istanbul. We will walk directly across from the mosque to visit the domed masterpiece of the Hagia Sophia before we head to Topkapi Palace.
Day 4 Nov 06, Full Day in Istanbul
We will begin our day with a morning of shopping at Spice Bazaar. Also known as the Egyptian Bazaar. Then, we will embark on a cruise of the Bosphorus. Afterward, we will drive to Golden Horn and visit Balat. Visit Fener (Phanar) with its old wooden mansions, churches, and synagogues. Here, we will also see the Orthodox Liturgy in the Patriarchal Cathedral of St George and the Bulgarian steel church. Then, we will end our day with an evening of shopping at the Grand Bazaar. Dinner and overnight.
Day 5 Nov 07, Istanbul / Troy / Canakkale
Today, we will drive along the shore of the Sea of Marmara into Thrace, the European part of Turkey. Crossing the Dardanelles by ferry, we will continue to the village of Tevfikiye by the entrance of the Dardanelles to see the remains of the legendary city of Troy. Settled as early as 3,000 BC, Troy was made famous by Homer’s Iliad, the epic account of the Trojan War. Dinner and overnight.
Day 6 Nov 08, Canakkale / Pergamum / Izmir
After breakfast, continue to the town of Bergama to visit Pergamum, one of the most powerful cities in the ancient world. We will tour the Acropolis, which sits atop a 1000-foot windswept mountain, offering a view of the neighboring modern towns, the azure waters of the Aegean, and the ruins of Pergamum that cascade down from the ancient city center. Here, we will explore the Temple of Trajan, the Temple of Athena, and the Altar of Zeus. Afterward, we will explore the Asklepion. Allegedly one of the world’s first full-service health clinics. Dinner and overnight.
Day 7 Nov 09, Izmir / Hierapolis / Pamukkale
After breakfast, we will drive to Pamukkale, “Cotton Castle,” and dip our feet in the thermal waters that flow down the hilltop’s unique white travertine terraces. Here, we will also visit the archeological remains of Hierapolis. We will stroll among several important ruins, including well-preserved Roman structures like the town theatre and Temple of Apollo. Dinner and overnight.
Day 8 Nov 10, Pamukkale /Ephesus Kusadası
After breakfast, we continue to Ephesus. Located in the modern town of Selcuk, ancient Ephesus is one of Turkey's most well-preserved archaeological sites. We will also see the Library of Celsus, which adorns the site’s most impressive square, and sit in the theater (the largest surviving from the Roman period). Then, we will end our day at the House of the Virgin Mary, the site where the mother of Jesus is believed to have spent the last days of her life with the Apostle John. Dinner and overnight.
Day 9 Nov 11, Kusadası / Izmir Airport / Athens via Istanbul
We will transfer to the Izmir Airport and fly to Athens. We will meet our guide and driver upon arrival, head to the city for an orientation tour, and then check in at our hotel. We may have some free time to explore the Plaka area this afternoon. Dinner and overnight.
Day 10 Nov 12, Corinth /Athens
This morning, we will drive to Ancient Corinth to visit the Bema. We will see the Peirene Fountain, the Temple of Apollo, the Temple of Asklepios, the Bema of St. Paul, the Roman Odeion, the Glauke Fountain, and the museum that hosts many ruins and statues of that time. Return to Athens, where we will visit the ruins of Parthenon, Erectheum, and Propylae over Acropolis Hill and admire Mars Hill, the place where Paul proclaimed to the Athenians about the one true God. On top of Acropolis Hill, we will view the Ancient Agora. A panoramic tour of the city will follow. We will see most of the city’s important sites: the National University, the National Library, the Academy of Athens, the Parliament House, the Panathenaic Stadium, Adrian’s Arch, and the Temple of the Olympian Zeus. Return to our hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 11 Nov 13, Embarkation Cruise / Mykonos
After breakfast, we will drive to the port to embark on the cruise, with the first stop at the famous island of Mykonos. A shuttle bus will transfer us to the capital for free time to explore the” Small Venice,” as it’s known. We will enjoy its building's architecture, shops, and restaurants. Return to the ship for evening entertainment
Day 12 Nov 14, Kusadasi / Patmos
Early this morning, we will visit the House of the Virgin. Next is Ephesus, dominated by the great 24,000-seat amphitheater. We continue to the Kusadasi pier to embark on our cruise. We will stop at Patmos, where the exiled St John received the Revelation, which forms the last book of the New Testament. Included is an excursion to the Monastery, which is of the 11th Century, and to the Grotto of Revelation.
Day 13 Nov 15, Rhodes
We will dock this morning at Rhodes. We will spend the entire day here. An optional tour is offered to visit the Temple of Athena on the rocky Acropolis of Lindos with the Aegean just beneath your feet.
Day 14 Nov 16, Crete / Santorini
This morning we will wake up at Crete, the biggest island in Greece. We will take part in the excursion to the ancient Minoan civilization and visit Knossos Palace and the Museum of Heraklion. Then, we will continue to Santorini, the famous colorful volcanic island. Visit the Megalochori, one of the island’s most authentic and unspoiled villages. Then, on to Firostefani, Imerovigli and Oia. Then, continue to Thira. Dinner and overnight.
Day 15 Nov 17, Disembark Cruise / Back Home
Today, we will disembark the cruise and transfer to the airport to fly back home, holding our great memories.
