Daily Itinerary

Day 1 Saturday, August 10 - Departure

Our pilgrimage begins as we depart Los Angeles on flight AM 783 at 12:51 pm to Guadalajara, arriving at 5:10 pm. Upon arrival and checking through Immigration and Customs, we will proceed to the exit door and meet our Adriatic Tours Representative. Transfer to our hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 2 Sunday, August 11 - Guadalajara, Zapopan, Tlaquepaque

This morning, we will visit the church of Our Lady of Zapopan. Later, a tour of Tlaquepaque and the downtown area of Guadalajara, the Cathedral, Plaza Tapatia, and the many interesting sites and historic buildings connected with the colonial era.

Day 3 Monday, August 12 - Guadalajara, San Juan De Los Lagos, Cristo Rey, Guanajuato

Depart Guadalajara and drive to San Juan De Los Lagos to visit the main Cathedral. On to Cerro Del Cubilete to see the impressive statue of Christ the King. Continue to Guanajuato, which was founded in 1559 and contains some of Mexico’s grandest colonial churches, government buildings, mansions, and theaters. Pipila Monument, set on a hillside overlooking the city, affords a stunning panorama of Guanajuato and the surrounding hills.

Day 4 Tuesday, August 13 - Guanajuato, San Miguel De Allende, Queretaro, Mexico City

In the morning, we will depart to San Miguel de Allende, a city that enchants visitors with its cobblestone streets, inviting Zocalo, 17th-century Gothic church, and centuries-old buildings plus strings of cafes and numerous art galleries. Drive to Queretaro, the lovely, well-preserved colonial city. Visit the center, which is full of markets, museums, churches, and historical monuments commemorating the city’s heroes. Continue to Mexico City.

Day 5 Wednesday, August 14 - Puebla, Tlaxcala, Ocotlan

This morning, we will drive to Puebla. the city reveals a showplace of Spanish colonial architecture, much of it adorned with the beautiful hand-painted Talavera tiles for which the region is famous. This magical place is packed with ornate churches. We will visit the cathedral and Santo Domingo Church with its stunning Rosary Chapel. After lunch, we continue to Tlaxcala and see the shrine of San Miguel del Milagro where St. Michael the Archangel appeared to Juan Diego Lazaro and told him of a miraculous spring. Continue to Ocotlan to visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Ocotlan, where an apparition to Juan Diego in 1541 was miraculously burned into the trunk of an Oak Tree. We will walk down to the well and drink of the healing water. Return to our hotel.

Day 6 Thursday, August 15 - Plaza of the 3 Cultures, Pyramids, Shrine of Guadalupe

Today, we will drive northeast to  Teotihuacan, one of the best-preserved ancient cities in Mexico.  Teotihuacan was the most important city in North America around 500 AD.   The milestone Avenue of the Dead is framed by countless monumental structures, including the pyramids of the Sun and Moon.  Return to our hotel in Mexico City for dinner and overnight. After lunch, we will visit the Shrine of Guadalupe. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 7 Friday, August 16 - Shrine of Guadalupe, Mexico City Cathedral, Zocalo Square

Today, we will drive to the impressive complex and one of Mexico’s holiest places. This is where the Virgin of Guadalupe is said to have appeared before a humble Indian named Juan Diego. Visit the New Basilica that houses the sacred image of the Virgin (Tilma). Later, we will see the Old Basilica, Tepeyac Hill, and the surrounding gardens. We will visit the Zocalo, the Metropolitan Cathedral, and the National Palace, containing the offices of the presidency and featuring along the walls of its central patio Diego Rivera’s stirring mural. After lunch, continue to enjoy Mexico City. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 8 Saturday, August 17 - Departure

This morning, we will visit the Shrine of Guadalupe for farewell prayers. Transfer to the airport and depart on flight AM 618 at 5:15 pm to Los Angeles, arriving at 8:23 pm.
